At the expense of everything else in my life, I read HBP in under five hours. Huzzah!
My impressions? At the risk of oversimplifying, I think this was JKR's best book to date. I had thought that the fifth book was quite good as well but there was too much misery for it to be completely enjoyable. Why is it that this book that contains even more misery was more enjoyable?
I had pegged Dumbledore for being the one to go in this book but it didn't happen the way I expected it to. WHY, SNAPE, WHYYYYY!!?? I'm not a huge Snape fan but I'm not writing him off (or any of the other characters, for that matter) until the last book is published. Nice to know that JKR has more tricks up her sleeve!
The new professor is entertaining, much better than that horrible cardboard Umbridge. Imagine a big drunken Bacchus as the Potions Master! Potions can be fun! :D
Dumbledore's decline and death were painful to read. I can imagine it was worse to write. Even if he was an old man and his death was predictable, no one wants to see the unsinkable ship wither and die. Poor Dumbledore. ;_;
Speaking of sinking ships.....::waves heartily to the Good Ship Wolfstar as it disappears into the briny sea:: Lupin and Tonks together, imagine that, mwah ha ha! :D I know it's rotten to take delight in other people's suffering, but it's about time karma bit some of these psycho RemusxSirius shippers in the ass! ::starts cackling like Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?::
I can't believe what happened to Bill. How horrible!
I admit that Harry and Ginny's relationship seems forced. I don't like that some people refer to Ginny using ugly language because she has a lot of boyfriends, though. Would it have been better if she were a boy? O_O

Date: 2005-07-17 08:02 pm (UTC)I mean, people have fun with subtext and write slash fan fiction all the time. Good for them. It's not like I don't read the stuff on occasion. But going batshit because one of the characters in question is suddenly given a girlfriend, and cussing out the author because she ignored the sacred holy pairing that you read into the subtext is just stupid.
I personally think Sirius didn't treat Remus nearly as well as he should have. I don't care if people say, "Oh, all this means is that Remus is bisexual," because for all we know, all the characters are bisexual. But in love with Sirius does not compute with me. There seemed to be definite resentments between the two, and I think that Sirius would have ditched Remus in a minute if James were around. I mean, he cared more about Harry than Remus!

It was one of the best books to date. Very enjoyable.
In spite of the Remus/Tonks...;__; I am not a Remus/Sirius shipper, but I can't be happy about that new pairing.
I wait for book 7 before I state any conclusion, too. There's much to know yet.

I agree with you on the Harry and Ginny shipper to be forced. I never cared so much for Ginny, I think.
