Long time no cat! =^__^=

Lucas still hasn't lost that kitten look, even though he turns five years old this April 29th. He still has that high-pitched, squeaky voice, too. Poor boy is never gonna be a man.
One of my favorite cats. He usually waits like this on top of the recliner by the door when somebody has gone out to get the mail. Or he'll flop out there when someone's sitting in the chair and kick that person in the head. XD
Beating up bunches in throw rugs and fuzzy purple balls since 2007!
It's not a holiday by any stretch of the imagination, but it's been a long time since I've been able to snap a nice photo of BooBoo. It's hard to believe he's lived with us for more than 4 years. It's hard to believe that he's 4 1/2 years old! He's still about 10 percent adult cat, 90 percent kitten.
Lucas turned four years old today. In human years, he's 32. Now that's a fine age, isn't it? XD
He looks awfully sulky in this picture, like he didn't get what he wanted this year. XD We actually got him a nice present: a reversible inclined scratcher that he's already engaged in battle several times. He never seems to want to use the toys for their intended purpose...
He usually looks solemn and regal in photos. Here's a picture that shows off Lucas's real personality.
Two videos for the price of one today! It's hard to believe that Lucas turns 4 at the end of April. He hasn't matured at all. XD
I didn't mean to jab him in the head with the toy. Really, I didn't.
As you can see from this video, Lucas is the same as always. XD
Or maybe not.
I guess I haven't posted in a while. It's been a whole three days! I don't really count picture posts as legitimate entries, so it really does feel like a long time. I wanted to post earlier this weekend, but it was so windy that all the windows on the east side of our house kept rattling like they were going to shatter. Miraculously we didn't lose power, unless I count the short blackout we suffered when I was in the freaking shower. We rely on an electric pump well for our water, so that really sucked.
On the bright side, if anyone dumps poison in the local reservoir, our water would still be safe to drink. Also, water main breaks don't affect us.
On the dark side, if we lose electricity we can't even flush our freaking toilets.
Lucas has been doing fine lately. I haven't posted about him because eventually everyone gets tired of hearing about the wacky adventures of somebody else's cat. We finally got him to jump in the cat stroller of his own accord. He enjoys it when I push him around inside the house, but I don't think it's good for my arms! That thing's about as big as a supermarket shopping cart. I wonder if I was wrong to choose the largest stroller I could find? Lucas is a big boy, but I could fit three of him in there!
On the book front, I've been reading Lilith's Brood by Octavia E. Butler. I got the recommendation somewhere as an example of a fantasy/sci-fi book written in "transparent" a.k.a "non-purple" prose. I'm about halfway through the second book in the anthology. I'll post my detailed opinions when I'm done with all three books. All I can say right now is that it's a fascinating book and very brutal, kind of like Saramago's Blindness except with tentacle monsters. And the prose is not purple, thank God. Anyone who's been following my blog for a while must know how much I hate purple prose! XD
I'm still not done with Chapter Five...but I'm getting there. My right hand is permanently stained with ink from my Space Pen, which I've decided I prefer to the Parker Jotter. I've been faithful to my doll-rooting ban. When I finally finish writing I'm going to bushwhack my Blue Bird's Song III Miu. Weep not for her! I have a very interesting hair color picked out for her that I've never used before.
We never did manage to stop Lucas from biting people.
Luckily, he's never taken his nipping to the next level and broken skin/exposed tendons on his victims. I think that we've been unable to make him quit chomping on people because 1.) he loves biting and 2.) If we scream at him for biting us he thinks we mean for him to bite lighter, not stop biting.
I've noticed that I'm the only one he bites every day, though. The more he bites me, the less he bites everyone else. I know he's nipped me before because I've annoyed him, but most of the time he's clearly doing it for fun. He grabs a random body part and bites and bunny kicks until he gets tired. I've shrieked (mostly for effect, because it doesn't hurt unless he bites my wrist or ankle) only to have him try to bite the same area later with less mouth pressure. Or sometimes he'll just lick the area instead. I guess he really thinks I'm a cat. I'm typically the person who plays with him the most, so maybe that's why he thinks he can use my body parts as chew toys?
It's kind of like when we scold him for trying to eat the Christmas tree (which we still haven't gotten around to taking down). He chews on a branch. We scold him. He moves onto another branch and chews that one. We scold him. He moves onto another branch. He licks an ornament. We scold him. He goes to lick a different ornament. We scold him. He gets annoyed and leaves the room. And so on...
I don't know if this is intelligence, lack of intelligence, or just plain willfulness on Lucas's part. He's thinking, "Okay, if they scream when I'm biting them it's because I bit too hard, not because they don't want me biting them. So next time, if I bite but not too hard, it'll be okay!
Maybe this really is an acceptable compromise?
Are you starting to realize how spoiled this cat is?
On the doll-rooting front, I've finished one side of the main part of Aya's head. I think the smell is starting to die down, thank God.
That's what it's been doing today. Raining.
It was fiendishly windy this afternoon, but the winds have thankfully started to die down. There are only two rooms in my house that aren't overshadowed by enormous trees (the spare bedroom facing north and the basement) so when we have windy days I get very, very nervous. I think it's the one year anniversary of the night that tree got blown into a utility pole one house down from us and caught on fire. I can still hear that zzzzz...BOOOOM! in my mind like it happened yesterday. I'm such a pussy. XD
I'm taking a day off from holiday knitting because it's been giving me bodily problems. Honestly, I don't know how obsessive knitters do it. I've only knitted one and a half scarves over the course of two weeks and my elbows and hands are killing me. I guess I'm just not built for that kind of life.
Since the weather was terrible and I hurt all over, I just loafed around the house all day drinking tea, playing ball with Lucas and plodding through the brilliant monstrosity that is Gormenghast. It is by far the hardest read I've encountered in my life, but when you move past the excruciatingly detailed descriptive passages and reach the scenes with human-to-human interaction that are always wonderful, it's a beautiful series.
I don't normally write this poorly. You've got to believe me! I'm still not great at putting my impressions into words!
I am also still playing Arcana. I've reached Chapter Four of Five and my notebook says I've clocked 7 hours of gameplay. So I'm assuming that the game is 10-15 hours long. I don't know what it is about that game that sucks me in. The Ice Mine was as maddening as I remembered. The English translation is so bad that most of the time I can't understand what the characters are saying. One of these days I'd like to play the Japanese version (Card Master) and figure out what the hell they're really talking about. Damn persistent guy! XD I'm not sure if I'm in love enough with the game to pay for EMS shipping, though. There are probably only about 20 lines of dialogue in the whole game.
I'd never have thought 45 degrees would feel warm! We had our third snowfall of the season last night but we didn't sustain any accumulation. As much as I wanted to be able to take pretty pictures of our yard covered in snow and ice, as the primary shoveler in our household I'm grateful that we haven't had anything major yet. Not that I can't handle it. I've dug my way out of 25 inches of snow before. I can handle anything!
I finished one of my holiday scarves so far, and have knitted 19 inches on the second. Cables all around this time.
Blasted cat won't stop jumping on the desk. I've warned him that every time he jumps on the desk, I'm going to grope him. Fun for me as well as him, then. Lucas doesn't like being held much but he hates being ignored.
I've been meandering with my hobbies lately. Nothing's good enough for me, hahaha! I'm trying to unwind with some light gaming, so I'm replaying Arcana for the SNES. I'm not sure how well-regarded that RPG is, but I've always had a soft spot for it. Sure, it's a snack compared to most RPGs, and the setting is hardly original, but that soundtrack! Oh, what a soundtrack! I'm really curious as to how long the game is--unlike most modern RPGs, it doesn't have a game clock. So I'm logging my playing sessions in a notebook. XD I wouldn't be surprised if the game is about 10 hours long.
I have another rerooted Jenny doll to show off, but I'm going to hold off for a few days. Enough is enough, I know! It isn't the Juliana, anyway. I'll post her soon enough, you'll see.
