Our clematis bloomed its first flower of the year today. That might not seem like much but we were almost certain that it had died last year. Last September I noticed that it wasn't growing any more. I gave the remaining vine a little tug and it slid out of the ground effortlessly. Apparently some bug or vole had chewed through the base of the plant and killed it. We had only planted in that spring and we assumed it was a lost cause. But what do you know, it started growing whole new vines this spring and now it has a flower! :D This is one of the small miracles of my life because even though my mother doesn't care for most of our plants she was quite upset when this one died. She had picked it out and I always thought it would be hard to grow. Welcome back, little clematis!
