Been a long time?
Mar. 4th, 2007 04:33 pmWow, it's been over a month since I last posted! I guess I've been too wrapped up in my weird interests and tiny life-dramas to find the time to post. Also, for the past week I've been feeling kind of strange. I think I might have caught a stomach virus. Hopefully it'll finish with me soon!
In my convalescence I've been doing a lot of reading. I've read some books I've liked very much and some that have frustrated me. I finally managed to find a copy of The Patchwork Girl of Oz which was actually a huge step above the books that preceded it. L. Frank Baum had temporarily given up on Oz and taken a two-year hiatus from the series before writing that one, and the effort shows! It's a rare occasion when I actually find a book (or anything) I whole-heartedly like, so I'm happy. ^_^
I also read the last two books of Lloyd Alexander's Westmark series: The Kestrel and The Beggar Queen. I don't know if we have the first book, I just found those lying around the house. And well...they do have some appeal but the countless grisly deaths seemed heavy-handed and, frankly, they disgusted me. Oh well. My father really loved those books. He's a big fan of war and gratuitous death. I'm still going to give the Prydain books a try; hopefully they aren't as bleak!
I've also put down TODr for a while and picked up Nocturne again. I'm close to the end of that game and I've been finding it a lot more satisfying than most of the PS2 RPGs I've played over the past few years. At first I thought I was sick of video games in general but maybe I'm just starting to outgrow the Tales series? I still like the games I like but honestly, I can't see myself getting excited over a new Tales game ever again. I think I might be too old.
