Snooooowwww........

We're having the biggest snowfall of the entire winter, right now! I think it's mostly sleet at this point but the constant ping!ing of ice against the windows is freaking me out. O_o All I can do is stay inside, drink tea, knit, read and write. That's a lot to do now that I think of it.

Knit Picks has discontinued some colors of yarn, one of them being Ambrosia, their sport-weight alpaca/cashmere yarn, in Fog. Thankfully we managed to snag three balls before it disappeared completely. I'm using them to make Kristen a Falling Water scarf like the one I made for myself in Rowan Calmer. Ambrosia is a lovely, soft yarn to work with. I'm actually having a better time with it than I did with the Calmer because alpaca has a lot of vertical stretch and doesn't get caught on the needle as much. Then again, I was stupidly working the Calmer on plastic needles...

I stole my Grimm's fairy tale book back from my brother. It turns out it wasn't a Norton anthology after all, but a collection translated by Jack Zipes. I don't know why I thought it was a Norton anthology. I guess it's as big as one! That book has a lot of stories that are very, very violent. It's a complete collection but the versions of the stories in the Fairy Books seem to be more fleshed-out...hmm.

I haven't finished with The Princess and the Goblin yet, even though it is a short book with huge print. It's a beautiful story with an eerie, dream-like quality that I haven't seen many modern authors successfully emulate. C.S Lewis supposedly borrowed a lot from MacDonald for The Chronicles of Narnia. Hey, at least he admitted it! Eventually I'm going to have to stop reading children's fantasy books, but they're always the ones I'm drawn to.

Oh, I have to paint a doll. I have to do a lot of things. I have an eye appointment in a few weeks and I'm thrilled. My vision has been sucking for the past six months and I need new glasses and for crying out loud, I haven't worn contact lenses for five years! My vanity suffers!
