...into our garden this year, it's hybrid tea rose Typhoo Tea!

I had actually wanted to get La Ville de Bruxelles from Northland Rosarium, but it didn't work out. Typhoo Tea was my first choice for a replacement, and Ispahan was my second. One of these days I will get Ispahan. I'm just holding back because it's really large.

The next anime series I've selected for viewing is the original Gundam series, LOL. I got it two years ago on clearance when Bandai Entertainment went under. I had watched a few episodes dubbed in English on Adult Swim many years ago, and thought, well this show doesn't seem to suck too much. I doubt that it will replace G Gundam as my favorite Gundam series of all time (not a serious Gundam fan here), but it seems decent so far. The animation got pretty crappy after episode two, but I do like a few of the characters. Maybe I'm just showing my age here, but I think that Bright Noa is really hot. No way that guy is 19, no way!

Hyuga-kuuuuunn...why do all the good voice actors die young?

Haha, I remember being shocked to find out Bright Noa's official age when I was working on the original Gundam series. The first series I worked on was Zeta Gundam, so I'm used to thinking of him as in his 30s.

It kind of reminds me of Beverly Hills 90210, with suspiciously old-looking "teenagers".

I think he definitely looks and sounds like he's in his thirties in the original series! What's funny is that a few years later Hirotaka Suzuoki was playing Hyuga in Captain Tsubasa, the world's deepest-voiced 12 year old...and his voice was even deeper than Bright's!

It was really a shock when he died. He was such an iconic voice actor.

I remember that you worked on the localization of Zeta Gundam, but I didn't know you did the original series, too. What did you think of them? I think the original series is good, but it took me about 11 episodes to get into it. Those old TV series ran for a long time! Nowadays you're lucky if you get more than 12 episodes!

The original Gundam series definitely feels like a slow build compared to modern shows. Because I saw Zeta Gundam first, it was fascinating seeing how the two series link up and how the characters evolved.

(It also made me appreciate the sheer fun of G Gundam... it still has its share of melodrama and angst, but it also has a horse Gundam piloted by an actual horse!)

I think a series like Mobile Suit Gundam is good if you can watch like 3 episodes at a time. If I could only watch one episode a week I can imagine I might lose interest. Which would be too bad, because I think it's worth the effort.

G Gundam is so awesome! It's one of my top 10 anime of all time. My favorite character is Schwartz Bruder, even though I admit that he has some of the cheesiest lines in the series. And his interface suit makes him look like a ninja clown. I've got a thing for 70's sideburns, I guess! XD
