Let The Race Begin.
Sep. 21st, 2003 05:29 pmIt's apple-picking season!
I love apples but since I'm from New England I am incredibly picky about them. I refuse to eat any apples but slightly underripe Macouns plucked right off the tree in late September (well, Fuji and Mutzu are nice as well, but a bit too sweet, not tart enough). Cortlands are good for sauce and pies, but you get my drift! Apples must be crunchy. So in order to make up for not eating inferior supermarket apples for an entire year, once we get the good ones Kristen and I start a contest to see who can eat the most in one day. She beat me out before, her record is seven. I'm eating my second one right now.
I was surprised. Usually the trees are picked over by the time we reach them, but this time they were absolutely covered! ^_^ It was like Christmas, tee hee ^o^! We picked a huge sackful of them and went on to the Cortlands. There were hardly any and I swear I busted a rib trying to reach one on a tippy-top branch. Nice to be 5'1'', it is. Good thing apple trees are short.
