I am afraid of a lot of things. I'm a great big chicken, and I feel like I end up being the source of quite a few jokes because of my often irrational....fear. I'm afraid of bugs, spiders and cicadas in particular. Cicadas expecially. There was this incident one summer vacation involving a cottage in the woods, a broken screen window and LOTS of cicadas. I don't want to talk about that, though. I don't want to even think about it! ;_;
::scarred for life::
Anyway, the night before last I realized I had another fear. It was dark outside and snowing, and Mom and Dad were working late. Kristen and I decided that we had to shovel again--I think it was around 7pm, and the snow was starting to pile up. I'm not sure what I was doing, but Kristen went out before me to get a head start. I was in porch cleaning up (or something) and I opened one of the windows to have a look at the lovely snowfall.
Huge snowflakes were floating down, and the ground looked sparkly ^_^.....and then, this SHAPE caught my eye. It was moving near the forsythia bush. At first I thought it was a cat, but it had an elongated snout and a long, skinny tail. It was a huge freaking rodent! It was like one of those Rodents Of Unusual Size !O_O.....Now, I've lived most of my life in the suburbs, and even when I attended college in the city I never saw a rat. I'm terrified of them, though! Even since I saw Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade! I have had many, many nightmares about rats crawling on me and clinging to my skin with their teeth. Too many!
It wasn't a rat, anyway. It was a huge freaking possum. Or an ordinary sized possum. -_- I've discovered that I'm afraid of possums. They're horrifying!
Now, last year I had a groundhog living in my yard, and every day I used to watch it devour our garden plants and say "Aw, isn't that cute?" I'm not afraid of all rodents, but possums are truly scary.
::cries::
Can't stand those hideous animals!
Date: 2003-02-13 05:49 pm (UTC)But the possums...ugh. Just last week, my dad had fell asleep in our tv room and woke up around 2am. He looked out the window and saw the backyard security lights on. When he went to the rec room to get a better view of the backyard, he saw 3 HUGE possums on a pile of snow and leaves, digging thru it. Ugh!
I always see the possum roadkill on the way to work every morning. *feels sick now*

Date: 2003-02-13 08:39 pm (UTC)Possums kind of look like old men. I'm glad they're nocturnal and I don't have to see them during the day.
We used to have moles. When I was a kid, I liked to play with the dead ones ^_^;;....they were the closest things I ever had to pets!
I still can't believe I did that.
What does your father do to the moles? I'm dying of curiosity!
