Look At These Huge Frigging Mushrooms!!!

You can tell we've been getting a lot of rain lately. I found these at the bottom of the big hill in our back yard. I'm pretty sure they're poisonous. It's too bad. I do love me some 'shrooms. I think these kind of look like pancakes...XD

That reminds me of a funny memory from my childhood that became a lot more hilarious later. When I was in elementary school my mother bought this weird mulch for our gardens that contained whole cacao beans. It was a lot of fun picking out those beans and pretending to eat them. Anyway, we had the mulch down for a few weeks when we noticed these weird little...growths coming out of the flower beds. We'd never seen anything like them before. To risk sounding crude, they looked like little pink phalluses. O_O Anyway, we were so freaked out by these that we ended up calling the nursery and having someone inspect them. He said they were some kind of mushroom.

Last night when I was trying to ID these huge mushrooms on the web I found pictures of the strange fungi of my past. It's called Elegant Stinkhorn, otherwise known as THE DEVIL'S DIPSTICK.

Mwah ha ha ha haaaa...^o^

Those are some big friggin' mushrooms. It seems like everywhere's been getting mushrooms this year; and we haven't in the past several. Ours are boring little white buttons, though. My parents always get those exploding ones you stomp on to get a puff of green.

The exploding ones are puffball mushrooms. They start out white and spiky like Epcot Center, but if you let them age they turn brown and shrivel up. If you step on them then they'll explode with a puff of green smoke--hence the name "puffball." :D That brings back a lot of memories!

I hear they're pretty tasty if you pick them when they're still white and fresh. I don't know...I don't feel right eating fungi I pick off my lawn (though I did it once when I was a kid, thank God it wasn't poisonous!)
