I'm On Fire.
Dec. 10th, 2009 10:05 pmI must have been tired from snow shoveling, because last night I grabbed the handle of a pan that had been in a 425 degree oven with my bare hands and got terrific first degree burns on the tips of my index, middle and ring fingers. Twenty-four hours later I can say that they look worse than they feel, but really, what else do I need? Thankfully, the burns are on my left hand (I'm a rightie) and I can still write and open doors. I had to ask my sister to wash my hair for me for the past two nights, though. The burns don't hurt very much any more but sting like crazy under hot water. I had been trying to go about my business like I had nobody to help me out, but really, what's the point if you do have somebody?
The Chinese-Style Barbecue Pork Tenderloin was delicious, though.
On the book front, I've been trying to pace myself with the monstrosity that is Anna Karenina, reading a different short book after every 200 pages. Soon I will hit the 400 page mark. I had been wanting to reread Diana Wynne Jones's The Spellcoats; out of The Dalemark Quartet that was the one book I really loved. Unfortunately, I have it in an anthology with the other three books...it's such a pain to have to lug that thing around. I wish I could cut it out. Or rip out Cart and Cwidder to lighten the load. That one really sucked. =_=

Date: 2009-12-11 06:18 pm (UTC)I hadn't put any ointment or cream on it. I was afraid of getting an infection--I keep hearing conflicting reports about what's helpful and what's dangerous! Thankfully, the injury isn't that bad, probably because I sunk my hand in a pot of cold water for five minutes right after it happened.
My copy of Anna Karenina is a Signet Classic. The print is pretty small! I have a hard time with books with small print as well, but maybe I don't fare as poorly as some because I'm nearsighted and not farsighted. I keep having to decipher the tiny expiration dates on jars of tomato sauce for my farsighted mother! When I started wearing glasses in 6th grade I only needed them to see the blackboard. Now I need them all the time. :O

Date: 2009-12-11 06:22 pm (UTC)I've never heard of Bio-oil, but maybe I should get some. I'm always burning myself in the kitchen, and my skin scars so easily.
