The bushes have been pretty noisy lately. It scares me when the birds start squawking to each other after dark. Is it mating season yet?

I made a lot of smoke in the kitchen tonight, sauteing chicken. It didn't burn, though--it actually turned out quite good. I hate pan-searing meat. It makes nasty smoke and gives me stomach cramps, but I heard on a couple cooking shows that if you don't have charcoal stains on the ceiling above your stove, you aren't searing properly. Boo hoo.

The creme brulee Kristen made for Mother's Day was lovely, lovely, lovely ^o^! Actually, she made it the day after, and before anyone panics I'll reassure you that custard is one of those rare things that's best made a day ahead. But please, somebody buy me a dessert torch! ;_; I've never begged for anything in my entire life, but if I ever have to melt brown sugar under a broiler again I'll scream. It doesn't work! In order to properly make the bruleed topping you need to melt the sugar with a dessert torch..;_;...they're between $25 and $50, and I would have to order one from a place like Crate and Barrel. Boo hoo hoo...

On the doll front....nothing I can disclose. I'm going to list some more anime stuff on eBay. Lots and lots of stuff. I was thinking of selling my Violinist of Hamelin manga, but after leafing through it I realized that it's not that I don't like it, I'm just overwhelmed by the fact that it has over 40 volumes! I still think Sizer is cool. So instead I'll sell the stuff I'm keeping just to torture myself, like the Tales of Destiny manga. Maybe someone will like it. I just think that even if a character who dies is a favorite of mine, the situation can't be made better by having him "go on a journey" at the end instead of croaking like he did in the game.

^___^;;

I'm feeling strangely satisfied right now. I probably shouldn't, but I just do.

I had creme brulee at my bday party on Sunday. Yum yum! Yep, you need a torch. My mother-in-law had just gotten a new one, kicked butt!

^_^ Happy belated birthday!

I'd better get a torch before we make creme brulee again. The brown sugar topping tasted good, but it was all squishy.

Noisy birds

Yup, it's mating season! We've had several nests around our house for weeks now and I think most of the babies have flown away. I meant to take a picture of this one nest that is in this odd coconut head...it's made of a hollowed out coconut and someone made a face on it. My dad put strung it up in our patio and before we knew it...these little sparrow-type birds made a nest in it!! I would watch from the window as the mama and papa birds would bring food to the 2 babies (one was killed by the parents =_= guess it wasn't going to live for long) like catepillars, beetles, and other type of bugs. Those babies flew away while I was gone over the weekend.

Turn the stove fan thing on high before you start pan-searing! My dad would pan-sear steak for us during the coldest days of the year and it would taste just as good as his grilled steaks!

Baby birds are so cute! We have mostly finches living in our bushes, and they can really scream sometimes!

Turn the fan on....BEFORE you start cooking. That would have been a good idea. ^_^; I turned it on when the kitchen started to fill with smoke. The only thing that wasn't bothered by it was the chicken! Thanks for the advice!
