Ah...we went to the Aquarium today. I hadn't been there in almost 20 years, and with the recent renovations I didn't know what to expect. All in all, I don't think it changed very much. I guess I have a good memory considering I haven't gone in since I was 5!
Even though we got there early enough to avoid the lines at the entrance, it was still pretty crowded inside. We hung around the beluga whale tank for a while--they were really cute and seemed to be more than content to swim around in backwards circles with their eyes closed the whole time. I have no idea how they managed not to bump into the sides of the tank! I'm glad there wasn't any kind of show with them doing tricks for snacks. It was much more enjoyable to watch them swim around on their own. ^_^
There were lots of...fish. Some of them were downright creepy, but I found the rays surprisingly cute. There was a big open terrarium with American alligators (tiny things!) and turtles. They kept climbing all over each other and opening their mouths n_n...
I think my favorites were the sea lions, because they made the freakiest sounds! They were enormous. At one point, two of them starting kissing...or something.
The seals weren't as impressive. They didn't make huge braying sounds like the sea lions but they were still cute. One of them just kept rolling around in the shallow water. I don't know what it was doing.
I loved the little penguins, but only one would swim out where it could be seen! It was just a little baby, only a couple of months old. It kept paddling near the edge of the tank, and some kid started knocking on the glass to get its attention. That annoyed me. I thought the parents would tell their kids not to harrass the animals, but the kid's mother started doing it too O_O!
It was hot. I had a good time but I wanted to leave after an hour and a half and find a restaurant because I knew there'd be air-conditioning. We went to this place that my parents go to when they visit the seaport, and I ordered a Teriyaki Flank Steak Salad. I don't eat red meat often, but when I do it needs to be good! I'm usually iffy about ordering a salad as an entree but it was pretty nice. The steak was cooked medium-rare and fanned out over the plate and the greens had some kind of soy/sesame oil/rice wine vinegar dressing. The greens were funky! I think I saw chrysanthemum petals mixed in...not bad!
On the way home we stopped at a craft shop and I found a pretty handmade dress that looked about the right size for a Super Dollfie. Kristen was worried it would be too small, but it's turned out to be a little bit big. It still fits nicely, though. You can have a look here:
I saw some ducks too....cute little duckies. I think I enjoy gawking at animals a bit too much. ^_^
