Tall Bearded Iris "Alizes." Compared to the Japanese variety, these tall bearded iris are fussy pains in the neck, but when they bloom they are magnificent.
Another beauty! Are these the same or more trouble than roses? I really want to have flowers but the roses I've tried manage to get every possible combination of pest and disease. :C
Thank you! I don't think anything is as much trouble as a rose, except for maybe tomatoes XD.
Tall bearded iris need to be divided every two years and hate excessive watering/rain. If you hit on a good cultivar you will have a friend for life, though...I have a blue one called After the Storm that is so productive that my whole yard is full of its babies.
Excessive rain? Hm...sounds like it's off the list for Western Washington! That might explain why I don't see them around much. Foo.
We have pretty decent luck with tomatoes around here, unless we get a particularly chilly summer. That hasn't been happening as much lately though. The last couple summers people have been reporting tomatoes coming up near as easily as squash. I suspect a bit of exaggeration there. :D
We usually get too much rain over here, too! I think you could definitely still grow them, but Japanese iris would probably do better.
Vegetable gardening in southern New England is a nightmare! We have such drastic temperature swings. I wish I could grow tomatoes. Everybody always wants tomatoes...
